As for my experience, it’s very important to put the rocks together by sizes – the small separately from the larger. I buried my large stones in the ground when needed to put them near the smallest. This made them look planted as if this where they really should be, not just where they got fall down.
Look at your yard and how it naturally lays. Is it flat? Is there a slope to one area? What do you find relaxing? How much “do it yourself” skills do you have? Before digging make sure there are no wires or utilities to cut this is often a legal requirement. Are there meters that utility people need to have access to? There are several garden design software programs that can help greatly in planning your project and some allow a 3D image as well as allowing for mature heights of plants used.
Kit manufacturers can swing these low prices thanks, in part, to mass production. There’s not a great deal of diversity in the models they offer, for example. But the fact that their lights are made of plastic plays the biggest part in that bargain basement price offering. That might not concern you much, but plastic has a down side. It has a much lower melting point than metal.
Heirloom veggies often taste better. They are popular with people going green and growing organic vegetables. Select them if you plan to save the seeds, because the new generation of plants will have similar traits as it’s parents. When you start hybrid seeds, the traits of the new seedlings can be unpredictable.
Anyone can do their own front yard landscaping if they need to save the expense of professional landscape architects. If you do not know what to choose, simply look around at the better gardens in the street and neighborhood – to see what you like – and if they look healthy, then you know they will also work in your garden. Good gardeners love to talk about plants and garden owners will identify the names of the plants if you don’t know them. They will also pass on tips if you need them. You also can take a leaf from a plant or a digital picture, and your local nursery should be able to identify the plant from that.
Often times people water their gardens too much, that is, more than the plants require. I live in Australia and we have some long drought times. Our native plants thrive during summer when there is a drought. The ones that flower are just so beautiful during these drought times, many of them have massive amounts of flowers, unlike when there is adequate rainfall.
When winter arrives, you can save some plants by placing them in your home. Find out which plants will be able to thrive despite the transplanting and different indoor conditions. Remember to be gentle when digging up your plants; carefully dig away from the roots and gently place the plant into a container.
